Observation Mound

Observation Mound sits at 580 feet along the Great Lakes Seaway Trail, with no elevation drop within 600 meters of the overlook. Tifft Nature Preserve lies west-northwest at 0.4 mile, and Gallagher Beach is visible to the west-southwest at 0.6 mile. The North Viewing Blind is northwest at 0.6 mile, close to the overlook's own elevation, while Ship Canal Commons and Top of Mound both lie to the south at 0.6 and 0.7 mile respectively. Buffalo is the nearest town, 3.3 miles to the north-northwest, with Amherst farther at 9.6 miles north-northeast and Niagara Falls at 19.8 miles north-northwest. Sunrise and sunset vary through the year, from a 05:38 sunrise at the June solstice to a 07:44 sunrise at the December solstice, with sunset ranging from 16:45 in December to 20:58 in June. This lookout follows Top of Mound and precedes the South Viewing Blind on the trail sequence.
