Observation tower

This observation tower along the Lake Erie Coastal Ohio Trail sits at 573 feet, with the surrounding terrain dropping only 4 feet within 600 meters, indicating flat, low-lying ground typical of the lakeshore. Mallard Club State Wildlife Area lies east-southeast at 0.4 mile, close enough to be a primary point of interest from the tower. Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge is visible to the east at 1.6 miles, and Lamb Beach lies northeast at 1.7 miles along the coast. Big Hill, a viewpoint to the west at 1.5 miles, rises to 618 feet. Toledo is the nearest town, 9.8 miles west-southwest, while Ypsilanti Charter Township and Pittsfield Charter Township lie much farther north-northwest. Daylight hours vary by season, with sunrise near 6:00 a.m. and sunset after 9:00 p.m. around the June solstice, compared to sunrise near 8:00 a.m. and sunset around 5:00 p.m. near the December solstice. The Duck blind lookout precedes this stop on the byway, with the Scenic Overlook following next. Given its position near wildlife areas and the coast, the tower offers a stopping point for viewing the surrounding wetlands and shoreline features.
