Ol' Baldy viewpoint

Ol' Baldy viewpoint sits at 1,686 feet on the Texas Hill Country Trail, facing 120 degrees with the land dropping 322 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. Foshee Trail lies south-southeast at 0.4 miles, at 1,563 feet elevation. The peak of Ol' Baldy itself rises to 1,856 feet, also to the south-southeast, 0.6 miles out. The Shut-In, another peak, is visible farther off in the same general direction, 6.1 miles away at 1,430 feet. The facing direction looks toward sunrise, offset 30 degrees from due east; sunrise times across the year range from 06:40 at the June solstice to 07:44 at the March equinox. Uvalde is the nearest town, 26.0 miles to the south, with Hondo 39.3 miles east-southeast and Kerrville 48.1 miles northeast. Coming from the previous stop, the 1000ft overlook of Inks Lake, this lookout precedes the next one simply named Overlook. The combination of the nearby peak and the more distant Shut-In gives two points of reference at different scales along the same south-southeast line.
