Orewa River

OpenStreetMap
Orewa River — direction of view not recorded. Terrain and imagery at true elevation.

This overlook sits along the Twin Coast Discovery Highway at the Orewa River, at an elevation of 3 feet, with the surrounding terrain dropping just 4 feet over 600 meters. The river flows east to reach Whangaparāoa Bay, north of the Whangaparāoa Peninsula, with the town of Orewa located near its mouth. Sunrise and sunset times shift across the year: on the March equinox, the sun rises at 07:24 and sets at 19:35; at the June solstice, sunrise is 07:34 and sunset 17:13; at the September equinox, sunrise comes at 06:13 with sunset at 18:18; and at the December solstice, sunrise is at 06:00 with sunset stretching to 20:40. The flat terrain and low elevation make this a level stretch along the river rather than a high vantage point. Travelers continuing along the byway can proceed next to the Wenderholm Regional Park Picture Frame lookout.
