Beyond these, Elephant Butte reaches 5,944 feet and Cly Butte reaches 5,812 feet, both also to the south-southwest and south respectively. Several viewpoints are visible in the same general direction, including Artists Point Overlook, Three Sisters Overlook, and North Window Overlook, each between roughly 7.5 and 7.7 miles away. The nearest towns are Oljeto, 15 miles west, and Dennehotso, 18.8 miles southeast, with Kayenta 26.4 miles to the south-southwest. The next stop along the byway is Forrest Gump Point.

Merrick Butte is a butte located in Monument Valley and is part of the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, similar to its neighbors West and East Mitten Buttes just to the north. It was named after silver miner Jack Merrick, killed by Native Americans in 1880.
