Ridge Lookout

Ridge Lookout sits at 2,178 feet along the High Peaks Scenic Byway (NYS Route 73), facing 270 degrees, with terrain dropping 570 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. The view faces west-southwest to southwest across a cluster of named rock features rather than distant peaks: Chapel View Arete, Chapel Pond Gully Cliff, Bob's Knob, and Cheap Date lie roughly 0.4 miles out, with Tillman's Arete and Tanager Face at the same distance to the west-southwest. Chapel Pond Slab sits 0.5 miles to the south-southwest, and Martini Wall and PE Wall extend the view to 0.5 and 0.6 miles at west-southwest and west, respectively. Elevations among these features range from 2,063 to 2,308 feet, close to the overlook's own height. Because the overlook faces squarely toward the sunset direction, the walls and aretes across the gap take direct light in late afternoon; sunset times run from 20:43 at the June solstice to 16:20 at the December solstice. Burlington is 34.9 miles northeast, with South Burlington and Essex Junction farther along the same direction. Giant Washbowl Overlook precedes this stop on the byway.
