The facing direction is oriented toward sunrise, offset 30 degrees from square, so early morning light comes in fairly directly across the overlook; sunrise times shift from 05:38 at the June solstice to 07:23 at the December solstice. Hannibal is the closest named town, 13.2 miles to the northwest, with Quincy at 27.9 miles north-northwest and Mexico at 46.3 miles southwest. This stop falls between Bird Viewing Blind and Victor's Point Roadside Park on the route.
