South View

South View sits at 903 feet along the Great River Road, facing 180 degrees, with the land dropping 273 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. To the south-southwest, the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge lies 7.6 miles out at 629 feet elevation. Farther in the same direction are Fairy Rock, a peak at 1,025 feet some 9.6 miles away, and three viewpoints clustered nearby: FerryRock at 9.7 miles (1,000 ft), Lower Quarry View at 9.9 miles (896 ft), and Reno Quarry Point at 10.1 miles (955 ft). La Crosse is 4.8 miles to the north-northwest, Onalaska 9.1 miles north, and Winona 30 miles northwest. Sunrise and sunset times vary through the year, from a 05:24 sunrise at the June solstice to a 07:36 sunrise at the December solstice, with sunsets ranging from 16:31 in December to 20:51 in June. This overlook falls along the route between the Bench lookout and Lock and Dam 8.
