Te Rere Ārai Mārena

Te Rere Ārai Mārena sits at 1,099 feet along the Thermal Explorer Highway, with the land dropping 46 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. Three bodies of water lie within view: Whāngioterangi / Echo Lake to the east at 0.3 miles (1,160 ft), Lake Ngakoro to the south-southwest at 0.3 miles (1,059 ft), and Lake Orotu, also south-southwest, at 0.7 miles (1,025 ft). Two peaks are visible further off, Maungaongaonga to the north-northwest at 2.7 miles (2,674 ft) and Maunga Kākaramea / Rainbow Mountain to the north-northeast at 3.1 miles (2,438 ft). Sunrise and sunset times shift across the year, from a 05:48 sunrise and 20:38 sunset at the December solstice to a 07:32 sunrise and 17:02 sunset at the June solstice, with the equinoxes falling between these extremes. The overlook is positioned along the route between Primrose Terrace and Panoramic View.
