Primrose Terrace

Primrose Terrace sits at 1,116 feet along the Thermal Explorer Highway, with the surrounding land dropping 59 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. Three bodies of water are visible from the terrace: Whāngioterangi / Echo Lake to the east at 0.3 miles, Lake Ngakoro to the south-southwest at 0.4 miles, and Lake Orotu, also south-southwest, at 0.8 miles. Two peaks are in view as well, Maungaongaonga to the north-northwest at 2.7 miles and Maunga Kākaramea / Rainbow Mountain to the north-northeast at 3.0 miles. Sunrise and sunset times shift across the year, with sunrise at 05:48 and sunset at 20:38 around the December solstice, and sunrise at 07:32 with sunset at 17:02 around the June solstice. The equinox timings fall between these ranges, with sunrise at 06:06 and sunset at 18:11 in September, and sunrise at 07:17 and sunset at 19:29 in March. This lookout is positioned along the route between Rua Ōwhanga and Te Rere Ārai Mārena.
