Windy Flats Viewpoint sits at 769 feet along the byway between the Gibbons Creek crossing near Washougal and the Plymouth Industrial Road junction, with the land dropping 608 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. The view faces 120°, roughly toward sunrise, angled 30 degrees off square to the direction of first light. Maryhill State Park lies east at 1.7 miles and 177 feet elevation, Rufus Community Center is farther east at 6.3 miles and 218 feet, and Gordon Ridge rises to the south-southeast at 11.9 miles, reaching 2,381 feet. Goldendale is 10.1 miles to the north-northeast, The Dalles 16.4 miles to the west-southwest, and Hood River 31.4 miles to the west. Sunrise and sunset times shift across the year, from a 05:15 sunrise at the June solstice to a 07:42 sunrise at the December solstice, with sunset ranging from 16:23 in December to 20:57 in June. This overlook follows Ice Age Floods Viewpoint and precedes Lewis & Clark Overlook along the route.
