Fort Winchester, built in Oct. 1812 by Gen. Harrison, served as a key U.S. post in the War of 1812. It was a supply base, training site, and rally point before Fort Meigs. Abandoned in 1815, its layout shaped Defiance, Ohio’s street grid.
