Austnesfjorden

This overlook on the Lofoten byway sits at 99 feet in elevation, facing roughly northeast, with the terrain dropping 99 feet within 600 meters of the site. Austnesfjorden itself is a 13-kilometer fjord in Vågan Municipality that cuts nearly through the island of Austvågøya, joining the Vestfjorden near Svolvær to the south. The European route E10 runs along the fjord's western shoreline for its full length, and the village of Laupstad lies at the fjord's innermost point, with Liland and the peak Higravstindan on the eastern shore.

From this point, several peaks are visible: Geitgallien and Higravtind to the northeast at around 3.1 and 3.4 miles, Sautind and Piktindan to the north at 3.7 and 4.0 miles, Litlkorsnestinden to the east-northeast at 4.4 miles, and Blatinden to the north-northeast at 5.2 miles. Daylight varies sharply through the year, from midnight sun at the June solstice to polar night in December, with the equinoxes bringing roughly twelve-hour days. The next lookout along the route is Djevelporten.
