Djevelporten

Djevelporten sits at 1,435 ft along the Lofoten byway, facing 30°, with terrain dropping 1,012 ft within 600 m of the overlook. Several peaks are visible from this point: Rundfjellet to the north-northwest at 2.8 mi (2,572 ft), Kvittinden to the north-northeast at 4.3 mi (1,648 ft), Rulten to the northeast at 5.8 mi (3,376 ft), Heggedalstinden to the east at 6.3 mi (2,388 ft), Sukkertoppen to the east-northeast at 6.3 mi (2,220 ft), and Kistbergtind to the north-northeast at 6.5 mi (2,104 ft). Daylight varies sharply across the year here: around the March equinox the sun rises at 06:03 and sets at 18:17, and by the September equinox sunrise is at 06:42 with sunset at 19:08. The June solstice brings midnight sun, while the December solstice falls within the polar night period, meaning no true sunrise. The steep drop-off near the overlook means the terrain falls away quickly just beyond the viewing area. Austnesfjorden lies before this stop on the byway, with Kviltuva as the next lookout along the route.
