Banner's Overlook

Banner's Overlook sits at 1,652 feet along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Byway, with the land dropping 515 feet within 600 meters of the viewpoint. The view faces 120 degrees, a direction oriented toward sunrise. Bevan Hill rises to the south-southeast at 4.7 miles, with Paw Paw Town Park visible in the same direction just beyond it at 5.0 miles. To the east, Purslane Mountain reaches 1,867 feet at 5.8 miles, while High Germany Hill sits east-northeast at 6.5 miles. Farther out, the Aaron Straus Heritage Conservation Fund Site lies east-northeast at 7.8 miles, and Cacapon 2, at 2,208 feet, appears east-southeast at 9.8 miles. Prospect Rock closes out the sightline to the east at 10.9 miles and 1,605 feet.

Because the overlook faces sunrise, morning light crosses the terrain directly; sunrise times range from 05:47 at the June solstice to 07:32 at the December solstice. Cumberland lies 15.7 miles to the west-northwest, while Martinsburg and Winchester are farther off to the east-southeast and south-southeast. This stop follows Warrior Mountain Overlook and precedes Prospect Overlook on the byway.
