Basin Overlook

Basin Overlook sits at 5,859 feet near mile 1 of the Dead Horse Point Mesa Scenic Byway, facing 150 degrees toward terrain that drops 1,515 feet within 600 meters. Several viewpoints lie across the basin to the south and southeast, including Chicken Corner at 2.2 miles, Chicken Corners Overlook and Chicken Corners at 2.6 miles, and Canyonlands Overlook at 5.3 miles. Pyramid Butte rises to the southeast at 2.8 miles and 5,105 feet, while Hatch Point stands south-southeast at 5.3 miles, reaching 5,873 feet. To the east, Pond2 is visible at 2.5 miles and Anticline Overlook at 5.7 miles, with The Wine Glass further east-southeast at 7.5 miles and 5,618 feet. Moab lies 12.0 miles east-northeast, Castle Valley 20.7 miles east-northeast, and Green River 42.5 miles north-northwest. This overlook follows Shafer Canyon Overlook and precedes Rim Overlook along the byway. Seasonal daylight ranges from a 05:56 sunrise and 20:47 sunset at the June solstice to a 07:34 sunrise and 17:02 sunset at the December solstice, with the equinoxes falling near 07:15 for sunrise and 19:20 for sunset.
