This overlook sits along the Red Rock Scenic Byway at 4,185 feet, with the terrain dropping 62 feet within 600 meters of the site. Bell Rock is visible to the north-northwest at 0.6 miles, rising to 4,824 feet, and Rabbit Ears can be seen to the east-northeast at 2.1 miles, at 5,120 feet. Sunrise and sunset times vary through the year: on the June solstice the sun rises at 05:15 and sets at 19:44, while on the December solstice sunrise is at 07:31 and sunset at 17:20, with the equinoxes falling between these times. Cottonwood lies 15.4 miles to the west-southwest, Flagstaff is 28.8 miles north-northeast, and Prescott Valley is 35.2 miles west-southwest. The USFS notes that the Bell Rock Pathway is a 3.6-mile trail with a mostly wide, hard surface, though sections near Bell Rock include steep hills and rocky, rough ground. A popular observation area exists on the west side of Bell Rock, but it is not accessible directly from the highway. The next lookout along the route is Yavapai Vista.
