Calf Mountain Overlook

Calf Mountain Overlook sits at 2,487 feet along Skyline Drive, with the land dropping 614 feet within 600 meters of the pullout. The view faces due north, taking in Ramsey Mountain 1.4 miles to the northwest at 2,139 feet and a series of features to the north-northeast: Sawmill Ridge Overlook at 2.2 miles, Sawmill Run Overlook at 2.7 miles, Turk Mountain Overlook at 4.0 miles, and Goat Ridge at 4.4 miles. Middle Mountain lies 4.6 miles to the northeast at 2,053 feet. Staunton is 15.5 miles west-northwest, Charlottesville is 18.0 miles east, and Harrisonburg is 25.9 miles north. Sunrise and sunset shift across the year, from a 5:53 a.m. sunrise at the June solstice to a 7:29 a.m. sunrise at the December solstice, with sunset ranging from 5:00 p.m. in December to 8:42 p.m. in June. Sawmill Ridge Overlook is the previous stop along the drive, and Beagle Gap Overlook is next. Maintenance of the view is funded by Augusta County through the Shenandoah National Park Trust Adopt an Overlook program.
