Sawmill Ridge Overlook

Sawmill Ridge Overlook sits at 2,211 feet on Skyline Drive, facing 235 degrees toward the southwest. The land drops 471 feet within 600 meters of the overlook, opening a view across the ridge and valley below. Calf Mountain rises to the south at 1.7 miles and 2,983 feet, while Ramsey Mountain stands west-southwest at 2.0 miles and 2,139 feet. Two other viewpoints are visible from here: Calf Mountain Overlook, south-southwest at 2.2 miles, and McCormick Gap Overview, south-southwest at 3.7 miles. North Park lies further off to the west-southwest, at 5.5 miles. Because the overlook faces close to sunset direction, evening light crosses the view; sunset falls near 19:27 at the March equinox, 20:42 at the June solstice, 19:14 at the September equinox, and 16:59 at the December solstice. Staunton is 16.0 miles to the west, Charlottesville 17.5 miles east-southeast, and Harrisonburg 24.1 miles north. Along Skyline Drive, Crimora Lake Overlook precedes this stop, and Calf Mountain Overlook follows it. Maintenance of the view is funded by Augusta County through the Shenandoah National Park Trust's Adopt an Overlook program.
