Copper River Viewpoint

Copper River Viewpoint sits at 1,598 feet along the Richardson Highway, facing east toward the Copper River, which lies 3.7 miles away at an elevation of 1,528 feet. The land drops 157 feet within 600 meters of the overlook, giving the terrain a noticeable downward grade toward the river. Because the viewpoint faces due east, it looks directly toward sunrise; on the June solstice the sun comes up at 3:47 a.m. and sets at 11:41 p.m., while on the December solstice sunrise is at 10:10 a.m. and sunset at 3:11 p.m. Glennallen is 14.7 miles to the south-southwest. Travelers heading north or south on the Richardson Highway can use this stop to view the Copper River valley from an elevated position above the river itself.
