Crazy Creek

Crazy Creek sits at 6,946 feet along the Beartooth Highway, facing 150 degrees toward the southeast. The land drops 106 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. From this point, Hunter Peak is visible to the southeast at 7.3 miles, rising to 9,005 feet. Table Mountain lies east-southeast at 9.2 miles, with an elevation of 8,755 feet, and Cathedral Cliffs appear farther southeast at 12.2 miles, reaching 8,253 feet. Cooke City is the nearest town, located 9.4 miles to the northwest, while Red Lodge is 30.7 miles east-northeast and Cody is 45.5 miles southeast. On the June solstice, the sun rises at 05:33 and sets at 21:10, giving the longest daylight window of the year at this location. The December solstice brings a much shorter day, with sunrise at 07:55 and sunset at 16:41. The equinox dates in March and September fall close to a 12-hour split between daylight and darkness. This overlook follows Pilot & Index along the byway and precedes the Falls lookout for travelers continuing the route.
