Ely's Peak Overlook

Ely's Peak Overlook sits at 1,250 feet along the Skyline Parkway Scenic Byway, facing 150 degrees toward the south-southeast. The land drops 401 feet within 600 meters of the overlook, giving an open sightline over the lower terrain below. Closer features include Gary New Duluth Community Park and Gary New Duluth Park to the southeast, Vintage Acres Park to the south-southeast, and Birchwood Park farther along the same direction, all sitting between 670 and 770 feet in elevation. At greater distance, the view extends to Pokegama Carnegie Wetlands State Natural Area to the east-southeast, and a cluster of parks near Superior—Webster Park, Head of the Lake Fairgrounds, Bryant Playground, and Petroske Complex—to the east, roughly 7 miles out. Bear Creek Park lies further east at 11.8 miles, and Big Manitou Falls is visible to the south-southeast at 12 miles, at 989 feet elevation. The towns of Superior, Duluth, and Cloquet lie at various distances to the east-northeast, northeast, and west-northwest. Sunrise and sunset times shift with the seasons, from a 5:16 a.m. sunrise at the June solstice to a 7:51 a.m. sunrise at the December solstice. The previous stop on the byway is Bardon Peak Overlook.
