Harveys Knob Overlook

Harveys Knob Overlook sits at 2,515 feet on the Blue Ridge Parkway, facing south with the land dropping 780 feet within 600 meters. The view faces a spread of peaks and features to the south: Taylors Mountain rises to 2,549 feet 5.0 miles southeast, Wildcat Knob reaches 2,285 feet 5.2 miles south-southwest, and Foster Knob tops out at 2,562 feet 5.6 miles south-southwest. Farther out, Wiggington Knob and Porter Mountain both sit at 2,451 feet, 6.5 miles to the south, while Montvale Park lies at 963 feet, 5.3 miles south, and Blue Ridge Park at 1,202 feet, 8.7 miles southwest. Roanoke is 16.9 miles southwest, Cave Spring 21.5 miles southwest, and Lynchburg 32.1 miles east. Given the south-facing orientation and steep drop-off, the overlook takes in low ground well below the parkway elevation. Sunset falls at 19:31 near the March equinox, 20:44 at the June solstice, 19:18 near the September equinox, and 17:05 at the December solstice, which affects how much of the terrain is lit depending on season.
