High-Points Point is visible farther off to the west-southwest at 3.9 miles and 2,076 feet. Sunrise and sunset times vary by season, from a 05:23 sunrise at the June solstice to a 07:21 sunrise at the December solstice, with sunset ranging from 20:36 in June to 16:30 in December. The nearest towns are well removed from the site, with Kiryas Joel 27.2 miles to the south and Yorktown and Cortlandt more than 36 miles to the south-southeast. Hawkwatch is positioned between two other stops on the byway, Overlook to the north and Compass Rock to the south.
