Lover's Leap

Lover's Leap sits at 2,445 feet along the Talimena Scenic Drive, facing 150 degrees toward the south-southeast. The terrain drops 677 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. Four peaks are visible from this point: Pine Mountain to the south-southwest at 2.9 miles (1,239 ft), Pilot Mountain to the south-southeast at 3.3 miles (1,534 ft), Middle Mountain to the southeast at 6.7 miles (2,093 ft), and Long Mountain to the southeast at 7.1 miles (1,949 ft). Mena lies 10.0 miles to the southeast, with Poteau 29.5 miles north-northwest and Greenwood 37.3 miles north. Given the overlook's southerly orientation, sunrise will occur out of view behind the terrain for much of the year, while sunset over the peaks ranges from 19:29 at the March equinox to 20:34 at the June solstice, narrowing to 17:11 at the December solstice. Lake Wilhelmina Vista precedes this stop on the byway, with Mountain Top Vista as the next lookout along the route.
