Potomac Overlook sits at 838 feet along the Antietam Campaign Byway, facing 270 degrees with terrain dropping 332 feet within 600 meters of the pullout. The view extends southwest to the Monocacy Aqueduct at 3.8 miles and Lock 27 at 4.4 miles, with Green Hill Park visible to the northwest at 5.3 miles. Farther out, "The Green" appears west-southwest at 6.0 miles, and Springdale Regional Park and Point of Rocks lie to the west at 7.3 and 7.5 miles respectively. The overlook faces directly toward the sunset point on the horizon, with sunset times ranging from 16:50 at the December solstice to 20:40 at the June solstice. Arlington lies 30.5 miles to the south-southeast, Washington 31.7 miles southeast, and Alexandria 36.6 miles south-southeast, though none of these towns are visible features from this point.
