West View

West View sits at 927 feet along the Antietam Campaign Byway, facing 240 degrees, with the land dropping 394 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. The view spans a range of features at lower elevation, from Dickerson Local Park and Dickerson Recreation Center 3.2 miles to the south-southwest, to the Monocacy Aqueduct at 3.8 miles and Lock 27 at 4.4 miles to the southwest. Farther out, The "Green" lies 6.0 miles west-southwest, with Behrend Park 7.0 miles to the south and Springdale Regional Park 7.3 miles to the west. The facing direction looks toward sunset, angled 30 degrees off square, which shifts from a 19:22 sunset near the March equinox to 20:40 at the June solstice and 16:50 at the December solstice. Arlington is 30.6 miles to the south-southeast, with Washington at 31.8 miles and Alexandria at 36.6 miles in the same general direction. This overlook follows McCormack Overlook and precedes Potomac Overlook on the byway.
