Rocky Creek Bridge

Rocky Creek Bridge overlook sits at 123 feet elevation along Big Sur Coast Highway - Route 1, facing 240 degrees. The land drops 119 feet within 600 meters of the overlook, giving a sense of the terrain's steepness in this stretch. The bridge itself is a 497.0-foot reinforced concrete open-spandrel arch bridge with a 239-foot main arch, a parabolic design, a decorative cantilevered walkway, and railings in an arched-window pattern. It is located in Monterey County about 12 miles south of Carmel and roughly a mile north of Bixby Creek Bridge. Because the facing is oriented toward the west, roughly 30 degrees off square from due sunset direction, the overlook faces toward the sunset side of the sky; sunset times vary through the year, from 20:29 at the June solstice to 16:57 at the December solstice. Salinas lies 24.5 miles to the northeast, Watsonville 37.5 miles north-northeast, and Hollister 42.9 miles northeast.
