The Schooner Head Overlook parking lot sits at 102 feet elevation on the Acadia Scenic Byway, facing 30 degrees. It consists of an asphalt parking loop surrounded by a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees, with a scenic ocean overlook at the top of the loop. Two car accessible spaces are located on the right side at the beginning of the loop, separated by an access aisle with a curb ramp to the sidewalk; the change in level where the curb ramp meets the parking lot exceeds 1 inch. The asphalt sidewalk is lined on the right side by large rectangular stones and curves along the loop to reach the overlook area. From this point, Schooner Head peak is visible to the north-northeast at 0.4 miles, and the Egg Rock Light Station is visible to the east-northeast at 2.2 miles, at 28 feet elevation. The land drops 101 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. A wayside exhibit titled "For the Birds" is located at this site. Ellsworth lies 18.5 miles to the northwest. The next lookout along the byway is Beehive Overlook.

This location includes an asphalt parking loop with a scenic ocean overlook at the top of the loop. The parking loop is surrounded by a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees. There are two car accessible spaces on the right side at the beginning of the loop. There is an access aisle in between the two spaces with a curb ramp to the sidewalk. There is a change in level where the curb ramp meets the parking lot that is greater than 1 inch. The asphalt sidewalk is lined on the right side by large rectangular stones, placed one after another. The sidewalk curves as it follows the loop of the parking lot and leads to the overlook area.
