Ship Creek Overlook

Ship Creek Overlook sits at 92 feet along the Alaska Railroad byway, with the land dropping 59 feet within 600 meters of the site. Brown's Point Park is visible to the north at 0.5 miles (128 ft elevation), and Ben Crawford Memorial Park lies to the east at the same distance (144 ft elevation). Anchorage is 0.3 miles south-southwest, while Wasilla and Palmer are farther off to the north-northeast and northeast, at 29.1 and 36.7 miles respectively. Daylight varies widely through the year: the June solstice brings sunrise at 04:21 and sunset at 23:43, while the December solstice sees a much shorter span, from 10:15 to 15:42. The equinoxes fall closer to twelve-hour daylight, with March sunrise at 08:01 and September sunrise at 07:45. The approach to this overlook closes seasonally in winter. Westchester Lagoon Nature viewing platform precedes this stop on the byway, and Hurricane Gulch follows it.
