Thunder Hill Overlook

Thunder Hill Overlook sits at 3,792 feet on the Blue Ridge Parkway, facing south with the land dropping 903 feet within 600 meters of the edge. The view to the southeast takes in Chestnut Knob at 3.3 miles, Raven Rock Knob at 3.7 miles, and Curtis Knob at 4.4 miles, all lower in elevation than the overlook itself. Farther south-southeast, Silvervale Falls is visible at 6.6 miles, with Butt Mountain beyond it to the south at 6.9 miles. Boone lies 6.1 miles to the north-northwest, while Hickory and Bristol are both more distant, at 32.5 miles and 43.9 miles respectively. Sunrise and sunset times vary through the year, from a June solstice sunrise at 06:11 and sunset at 20:48 to a December solstice sunrise at 07:35 and sunset at 17:16. Moses Cone Overlook is the previous stop along the byway, and Yadkin Valley Overlook follows.
