Top of the Hill Viewpoint sits at 4,255 feet along Red Rock Canyon Road, with the terrain dropping 495 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. The view faces 120°, roughly toward the east-southeast, taking in Calico Spring 0.6 miles away at 3,733 feet and Firehouse Hill 2.8 miles distant at 3,873 feet. Because the facing is angled about 30° off due east, the overlook looks toward the general direction of sunrise; on the June solstice the sun comes up at 05:26 and sets at 20:03, while on the December solstice sunrise is at 06:50 and sunset at 16:31, with the equinoxes falling near 06:30–06:46 for sunrise and 18:40–18:54 for sunset. Las Vegas lies 15.9 miles to the east, North Las Vegas 17.6 miles east, and Henderson 26.5 miles east-southeast. This stop falls between Calico I and Calico II along the byway sequence.
