Whitewater Falls Viewing Platform

Whitewater Falls Viewing Platform sits at 2,518 feet along Whitewater Way, facing 330 degrees toward land that drops 295 feet within 600 meters of the platform. The site lies along the Blue Ridge Escarpment, where elevation falls sharply between the mountains and the Piedmont; Upper Whitewater Falls, with a 411-foot plunge, is located in North Carolina, and South Carolina's Lower Whitewater Falls continues the drop another 400 feet. The rugged, difficult-to-access terrain has kept much of the surrounding area undeveloped, and the cool, shaded slopes and rock cliffs support wildflowers, salamanders, ferns, mosses, and fungi. Easley is 28.5 miles east-southeast, Greenville is 37.2 miles east-southeast, and Anderson is 41.9 miles south-southeast. The Whitewater Falls Overlook precedes this stop, and Rainbow Falls follows it along the byway. Visitor volume is high during midday and on holidays, so morning or evening visits are recommended. Passes can be purchased online through recreation.gov. Daylight hours shift by season: sunrise and sunset run from roughly 6:19 a.m. to 8:50 p.m. near the June solstice and from about 7:37 a.m. to 5:25 p.m. near the December solstice.
