Windy Point

Windy Point sits at mile 29 of 85 along the McKenzie Pass-Santiam Pass byway, at an elevation of 4,871 feet. The overlook faces roughly 30°, toward the north, with the land dropping 125 feet within 600 meters of the viewpoint. Three peaks are visible from this position: Dugout Butte to the north-northwest at 1.5 miles (5,234 ft), Bluegrass Butte to the north-northeast at 2.5 miles (4,861 ft), and Cache Mountain to the north at 6.3 miles (5,581 ft). Bend lies 27.4 miles to the southeast, Redmond 29.2 miles east, and Madras 39.3 miles northeast. Three Sisters Viewpoint precedes this stop on the route, and Sahalie Falls Viewpoint follows it. Daylight hours vary by season: on the March equinox the sun rises at 07:11 and sets at 19:20; on the June solstice sunrise is at 05:24 and sunset at 20:55; on the September equinox sunrise is at 06:55 and sunset at 19:06; and on the December solstice sunrise is at 07:40 and sunset at 16:31.
