Platted in 1881 by Isaiah Custer at the junction of Zane’s Trace and the Cincinnati & Eastern Railway. Incorporated 1886 and named for John G. Peebles. David Nixon built the first house, later the Nixon Hotel. Chautauquas were held nearby from 1906–1917.
