- Founder Peter Shouse, built "Kentuckian" its first steamboat in 1829. Sold 1837 to E.and N. Porter. By 1866 over 80 steamboats had been launched. The last was the 1727-ton "Great Republic", famed on the Mississippi River for its size and elegance.
