Black Mountains Overlook

Black Mountains Overlook sits at 3,892 feet along the Blue Ridge Parkway, facing 240 degrees with land dropping 735 feet within 600 meters of the edge. Big Laurel Mountain rises to the south-southwest at 3.3 miles (4,141 ft), and Hewat Overlook (MP 347.9) is visible in the same direction at 3.7 miles (4,293 ft). To the west lie three waterfalls: Anaconda Falls at 3.9 miles (4,170 ft), Crevice Falls at 4.0 miles (4,333 ft), and Timber Falls at 4.1 miles (4,451 ft). The facing direction is angled toward the sunset side of the sky, roughly 30 degrees off a direct westward line, which affects how light falls across the view in the evening hours. Asheville lies 25.2 miles west-southwest, Johnson City 38.1 miles north-northwest, and Shelby 49.3 miles southeast. This overlook falls between Buck Creek Gap Parking Overlook and View Black Mountain Overlook along the route.
