Hawk Watch

Hawk Watch sits at 6,639 feet on the Lariat Loop Scenic and Historic Byway, facing 120° with land dropping 620 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. Several features are visible below to the southeast and south-southeast: the Gift Shop at 0.6 mi, Dinosaur Ridge Visitor Center at 0.7 mi, Council Tree and Old Rooney Dance Hall at 0.7 mi, and the Dinosaur Tracksite at 1.0 mi. The orientation faces roughly toward sunrise, 30° off square, so morning light comes in from that direction across the year, with sunrise times ranging from about 05:34 at the June solstice to 07:19 at the December solstice. Lakewood is 6.2 miles to the east, Denver 11.8 miles east-northeast, and Aurora 17.6 miles east. This lookout follows Front Range Overlook and precedes the Point of Geological Interest on the byway route.
