Kestrel Point

Kestrel Point sits at 1,314 feet on the Loess Hills Scenic Byway, facing west (270°) with land dropping 242 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. Sodrac Park lies southwest at 2.3 miles, with River Overlook further off to the west-southwest at 3.9 miles. A string of higher features stretches west-northwest, including Lookout Hill at 12.9 miles, Elk Point Bend State Wildlife Management Area at 14.0 miles, Danish Alp State Recreation Area at 15.8 miles, Boy Scout Hill at 19.3 miles, and Indian Hill at 19.8 miles. Because the overlook faces directly toward the sunset, evening light lines up with the direction of view year-round; sunset falls near 19:38 at the March equinox, 21:08 at the June solstice, 19:25 at the September equinox, and 16:56 at the December solstice. Sioux City is 4.6 miles to the southeast, South Sioux City 5.5 miles south-southeast, and Le Mars 23.1 miles northeast. Kestrel Point follows Bobsled Run and precedes Mount Lucia on the byway route.
