Lewis and Clark Monument Park

Lewis and Clark Monument Park sits along the Loess Hills Scenic Byway at 1,227 feet elevation, facing 210 degrees toward the south-southwest. The terrain drops 251 feet within 600 meters of the overlook, giving an open sightline across the lower ground below. From this vantage, several parks and preserves are visible to the south and southwest: Big Lake Park at 0.6 miles, Narrows River Park and Blackbird Marsh County Preserve near 1.5 to 1.6 miles, Bahnsen Park at 2.1 miles, and Charles E. Lankin Park at 2.4 miles. Further out, the Boys Club of Omaha, Freedom Park, and Mabrey Park lie between 2.6 and 2.8 miles to the west-southwest and southwest, each sitting in the 975 to 985 foot elevation range. Council Bluffs is 3.1 miles to the south, with Omaha 5.2 miles southwest and Bellevue 11.7 miles south. Daylight hours shift with the seasons here: sunrise runs from about 05:51 in June to 07:47 in December, with sunset ranging from 16:58 in December to 21:01 in June. The next lookout along the byway is called Scenic Overlook.
