Licklog Gap Overlook

Licklog Gap Overlook sits at 5,135 feet on the Blue Ridge Parkway, with the land dropping 689 feet within 600 meters of the edge. The view faces 60°, roughly toward sunrise, and takes in a cluster of peaks to the north and east. Laurel Patch Bald rises to the north at 0.6 miles and 5,531 feet. Farther out, Cold Spring Knob stands east at 4.0 miles and 5,897 feet, with Lickstone Bald east-northeast at 4.4 miles and 5,684 feet. Marg Mountain and Wolfpen Mountain lie to the northeast at 4.7 and 6.1 miles, at 3,999 and 4,455 feet respectively. Because the overlook faces close to the sunrise direction, early morning stops may catch direct light across the gap, particularly around the June solstice when sunrise comes at 6:18. Winter visits mean a shorter window, with sunrise near 7:38 and sunset by 5:24 in December. Asheville lies 30.9 miles east-northeast, Sevierville is 43.7 miles northwest, and Berea is 48.5 miles southeast. The overlook falls along the Parkway between Grassy Ridge Mine Overlook and Licklog Ridge Overlook.
