Farther out, Gobbler Knob, Potato Butte, the Buffalo Hunt Rollercoaster, and the Custer County Fairgrounds are visible to the northeast and east at distances between 11 and 12.6 miles. Because the overlook faces the sunrise directly, morning light arrives early, with sunrise times ranging from 05:12 at the June solstice to 07:26 at the December solstice. Rapid City lies 18.5 miles to the north-northeast, Box Elder 26.4 miles northeast, and Hot Springs 29.5 miles south. The Sunset view lookout precedes this stop, and the Mount Rushmore Viewpoint follows it along the byway.

OverviewThe Norbeck Overlook is located on Iron Mountain southeast of Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The overlook provides a view of Mount Rushmore from a distance of approximately one mile. To access the overlook from Keystone, drive west on Highway 244 to the junction with US Highway 16A. Travel south on 16A for approximately four miles.
