North Toe River Valley

North Toe River Valley Overlook sits at 3,540 feet along the Blue Ridge Parkway, facing 300 degrees toward the northwest. The terrain falls away sharply, dropping 622 feet within 600 meters of the pullout. Five peaks are visible across the valley: Burleson Bald to the west-northwest at 4.9 miles (4,637 ft), Pine Knob to the west at 5.0 miles (3,873 ft), Hanging Rock to the west-southwest at 5.0 miles (3,306 ft), English Knob to the west at 5.3 miles (3,634 ft), and Big Bald to the west-northwest at 5.9 miles (5,289 ft). The overlook's orientation places it roughly 30 degrees off a direct sunset view. Johnson City lies 33.1 miles to the northwest, Hickory is 37.8 miles east-southeast, and Asheville is 41.5 miles southwest. Chestoa View Overlook precedes this stop along the route, with Camp Creek Overlook following it.
