Heffner Gap Overlook

Heffner Gap Overlook sits at 3,067 feet on the Blue Ridge Parkway, with the land dropping 631 feet within 600 meters of the pullout. The view faces 120°, roughly toward sunrise, taking in a spread of peaks and one waterfall. Honeycutt Mountain rises to the east-northeast at 2.0 miles (3,623 ft), with Stillhouse Falls visible to the east-southeast at 3.4 miles (2,048 ft). Further east, Dogback Mountain (4.3 mi, 3,519 ft) and The Chimneys (5.7 mi, 3,463 ft) mark the horizon, while Dobson Knob appears to the south at 4.9 miles (3,690 ft). Devil's Cellar Overlook, a viewpoint across the way, sits east at 6.0 miles and 3,935 feet. Because the overlook faces the sunrise direction, morning light reaches it early: sunrise runs from about 06:13 in June to 07:35 in December. Johnson City lies 36.4 miles north-northwest, Asheville 37.0 miles west-southwest, and Hickory 37.6 miles east-southeast. North Cove Valley Overlook precedes this stop on the byway, with Hefner Gap Overlook following it.
