Pemigewasset Overlook

Pemigewasset Overlook sits at 2,805 feet along the Kancamagus Scenic Byway, facing 300 degrees with the land dropping 334 feet within 600 meters of the site. The view spans a line of peaks to the west and northwest, including Peggy's Perch and West Peak at 2.9 miles (4,035 ft and 4,089 ft), Scar Ridge East Peak at 3.5 miles (3,610 ft), Mount Hitchcock at 4.0 miles (3,613 ft), Scar Ridge at 4.9 miles (3,772 ft), Potash Knob at 6.7 miles (2,669 ft), and Whaleback Mountain at 7.4 miles (3,583 ft). Because the overlook faces toward the sunset side of the compass, the setting sun tracks across this stretch of terrain; sunset falls near 18:58 at the March equinox, 20:33 at the June solstice, 18:45 at the September equinox, and 16:11 at the December solstice. A pavilion at the site provides interpretive signing describing the views. The nearest towns are Gilford, 33.3 miles south, Laconia, 34.5 miles south, and Berlin, 34.3 miles north-northeast.
