Red Rock Overlook

Red Rock Overlook sits at 218 feet along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Byway, with the land dropping 38 feet within 600 meters of the site. From the overlook, Edwards Landing Park is visible to the west-northwest at 1.1 miles, sitting at 308 feet, and Potomac Crossing Park lies farther in the same direction at 1.4 miles and 321 feet. The overlook is located well north of the region's main population centers, with Arlington 27.5 miles southeast, Washington 29.4 miles east-southeast, and Alexandria 32.7 miles southeast. Along the byway, it falls between the Washington Aqueduct Observation Platform, the previous lookout, and Weverton Cliffs, the next stop. Daylight hours shift across the year at this location, with sunrise at 5:45 and sunset at 20:40 near the June solstice, and sunrise at 7:26 with sunset at 16:51 near the December solstice. Equinox daylight runs from about 7:14 to 19:22 in March and 6:58 to 19:09 in September.
