Ropers Rock

Ropers Rock sits at 1,914 feet on Lookout Mountain Parkway, facing 300 degrees with a drop of 717 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. The terrain falls away toward Chattanooga, 3.0 miles to the northeast. Closer features visible to the west and west-northwest include the Wild Ones Pollinator Garden at 1.2 miles, the Sensory Garden at the same distance to the west-southwest, and John A Patten Park at 1.5 miles. Farther out, Obar Spring lies 3.6 miles west-northwest, and Laurel Point Picnic Area is visible at 4.8 miles in the same direction, sitting at 1,571 feet. Williams Island State Archaeological Park is 4.9 miles north, with Hicks Mountain further west-northwest at 6.2 miles and 1,807 feet, and Williams Point 6.7 miles north at 1,661 feet. The overlook faces 30 degrees off square from due sunset direction, meaning the setting sun tracks near but not directly into the view through the year. Winter sunset arrives at 17:34, while summer sunset extends to 20:59. Ropers Rock follows Umbrella Rock along the parkway route.
