Sunset Rock

Sunset Rock sits at 1,850 feet on Lookout Mountain Parkway, facing 300 degrees with the land dropping 825 feet within 600 meters of the overlook. The view spans from nearby features to more distant terrain: Sensory Garden and Wild Ones Pollinator Garden lie within a mile to the west-northwest and northwest, with John A Patten Park at 1.5 miles to the north-northwest. Farther out, Laurel Point Picnic Area and Racoon Mountain Overlook appear to the northwest at 4.7 and 5.9 miles, near Hicks Mountain at the same distance. Street Point and Tatum Mountain lie to the west-southwest, both around 6.6 to 6.7 miles away. The facing direction is oriented 30 degrees off due west, putting it toward the sunset; on the June solstice the sun sets at 20:59, while on the December solstice it sets at 17:34. Chattanooga is 4.0 miles to the northeast, with Dalton and Cleveland farther off to the southeast and east-northeast. This stop follows The Overlook and precedes Point Park Tour Stop #2 - Parrott Gun Overlook along the route.
