Sunset Viewing Spot

The view faces 60°, roughly toward sunrise rather than sunset, and takes in a mix of lower features and higher peaks to the north and east. Ivy Pointe Open Space lies northeast at 0.4 mi (465 ft), with Pine Park to the north-northeast at 0.9 mi (523 ft) and Garipay northeast at 1.0 mi (524 ft). Farther out, Velvet Rocks rises east at 1.1 mi to 1,069 feet and Balch Hill sits east-northeast at 1.3 mi to 948 feet. Ferguson Field appears north-northeast at 1.9 mi (508 ft), and Oak Hill closes out the view to the northeast at 2.2 mi (865 ft). Lebanon is the nearest town, 4.6 mi south-southeast, with Claremont farther south at 23.2 mi and Rutland to the west at 35.0 mi. Norman Overlook precedes this stop on the byway, and Balch Hill follows as the next lookout. Given the eastward-leaning orientation, the site is better suited to morning light than to evening color.
