Terrapin Mountain Overlook

Terrapin Mountain Overlook sits at 2,881 feet along the Blue Ridge Parkway, facing 175 degrees, with the land dropping 715 feet within 600 meters of the pullout. Terrapin Mountain itself rises to the south, 1.7 miles away at 3,487 feet, and another viewpoint bearing its name lies just beyond, 1.8 miles out at 3,464 feet. Lynchburg is 19.9 miles to the east-southeast, while Roanoke and Cave Spring lie farther off to the southwest, at 32.3 and 36.9 miles respectively. Daylight varies through the year: on the June solstice the sun rises at 5:58 and sets at 8:43 p.m., giving the longest window at the overlook, while the December solstice trims that to a 7:30 a.m. sunrise and 5:04 p.m. sunset. The equinoxes fall in between, with sunrise and sunset both near the early morning and evening hours in March and September. This overlook follows House Mountain Overlook along the route and precedes Thunder Ridge Overlook for those continuing on the Parkway.
